Introduction
Rajat Buildtech, established in 2005, is a construction company and a part of Rajat Group of Companies which has been catering to various industries since 1975 in Raipur, Chattisgarh. The company has a vision of creating significant landmarks and contribute towards the urban infrastructure development in the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh. It has emerged as one of the most progressive and multi-faceted real estate and construction entities in the state.
Preconstruction Riddled with Old-School Challenges
Rajat Buildtech used to employ various teams for designing, planning, and budgeting during the preconstruction phase of the project. In a two-tier city work environment though, most of the processes so far have been manual and paper based. The teams working on the project would design traditionally through 2D drawings. This often resulted in multiple errors and improper collaboration between various design teams. The errors made at one stage of the designing work would often creep into the next stage without being noticeable right towards the end, resulting in multiple redesigns, adding to the costs and timelines. Moreover, due to the mostly manual processes, the team at Rajat Buildtech could see only one drawing at a time, which would demand a longer timeframe for preconstruction planning. The team would often need to go the site to manually monitor each stage of the preconstruction work. On the budgeting front, manual take offs were used to calculate estimates of the construction budgets at various stages.
Adopting Technology to Gear up for Future
With a relatively younger workforce, an average age between 35-40 years, Rajat Buildtech was keen to use technology as a strategic driver for the preconstruction stages for its projects. This led to the association with 5D VDC Services LLP (5D VDC), with whose support and services, the challenges of manual preconstruction planning and design were successfully resolved.
5D VDC, a services and software training partner with Autodesk India, deployed Autodesk’s BIM 360 and ASSEMBLE software modules for digitalising and technology upgradation for Rajat Buildtech’s preconstruction requirements. BIM 360 is a construction management software enabling cloud-based design collaboration and coordination for planning and design teams, while Assemble helps make any 3D-model based design construction-ready by conditioning and connecting BIM data to design reviews, estimating, scheduling, and work-in-place tracking
